Zoom wooed for new flight route
Posted on: December 19th, 2007 by Dave BessCanadian-based Zoom Airlines was looking for a new trans-Atlantic flight path, and San Diego came out on top over San Francisco and Seattle to launch the flight across the pond to London, England. With over four years without an international flight leaving its gates, San Diego’s Lindbergh Field was keen to lure the airline to its facility, and it did so with some sweet incentives- an offer Zoom couldn’t refuse.
Just for moving into the building, Zoom has been offered $100,000 in wavers for terminal space rental and landing fees. Not to mention the $200,000 in marketing incentives.
Flights will depart on Mondays and Fridays, arriving in London the morning of the next day, and return with passengers coming from London’s Gatwick Airport. President of San Diego’s airport authority Thelia Bowers is confident the move was the right one.
“We expect the flights will be popular on both sides of the Atlantic. The London flight will give San Diego’s tourism industry access to thousands of British travelers, who tend to stay longer and spend more,” she said.
