Two aircraft leased by Zoon Airlines have been grounded after the leasing company alleged that fees had not been paid, disrupting scheduled service between Glasgow and airports in Canada.

A Boeing 757 that was scheduled to depart Glasgow on Thursday for Halifax and Ottawa, Canada, carrying over 200 passengers, was not permitted to take off.

The National Air Traffic Service and Eurocontrol reported that the Canadian carrier had not paid charges, and that due to a dispute, the aircraft could not be cleared for departure.

A flight schedule to depart Calgary on the Glasgow service is also reported to have been grounded.

An airline insider commented that the groundings were due over a dispute in payment between Zoom and the aircraft leasing company.

In Glasgow, an airport spokesman said that discussions were ongoing, in an attempt to resolve the conflict. He added that a schedule Zoom departure to Vancouver was delayed for 12 hours on Thursday evenings, but to technical problems.

Passengers will be re-routed to Vancouver via London Gatwick.

A spokesman for Zoom commented: “A plane flying from Glasgow to Vancouver last night, via Calgary, stopped off as scheduled. There was an issue from the aircraft leasing company which could not be resolved.”
