Your mum was right about honesty being the best policy
Posted on: June 15th, 2007 by Dave BessIt was a regular day at the cargo bay in Kansas City Airport for Robert Lewis this past Monday. That is until he stumbled upon a cargo bag that seemed to have been misplaced.
On inspection, Lewis found the bag to contain individually wrapped wedding bands and diamond rings, which he would later learn were worth $266,000 and belonged to Helzberg Diamonds. He then turned the bag in to local authorities.
Helzberg CEO Marvin Beasley spoke of Mr. Lewis as a “shining example of what makes Kansas City a great place to live and work.”
It seems that statement almost didn’t happen, as Lewis describes his initial thoughts of keeping the bag for himself. “For one second, I thought, ‘I could bury this in my backyard and then pull it out when I’m 60 years old or so. By then, no one would remember it.”
Apparently, Lewis learned well that honesty is the best policy, and the company is set to reward Mr. Lewis to the snappy tune of $10,000 for his actions.
