A new study has found that more than half of young Britons who are considering going on holiday may do so with their parents in order to save on costs during the economic downturn.

The survey learned that 52 per cent of potential UK holidaymakers in the 20-30 age group were considering going on a break with their parents this year – and approximately one-third said they would do so because their parents will cover the costs.

Sixty-four per cent indicated they would travel with other family members that offered to pay for a holiday – even if they didn’t enjoy spending a lot of time with them.

This new type of holidaymaker is being referred to as a HOMAD, as they “Holiday on Mum and Dad”. Just 20 per cent stated they would go on holiday with their parents to rediscover the joys of childhood.

Courtney Wylie, Holiday-rentals.co.uk managing director, said: “As young people suffer in the credit crunch, more twenty-somethings than ever are choosing to go on holiday with their folks.” The online holiday operator conducted the study, in which 2,500 young Britons participated.
