World’s biggest Reggae festival set to scorch Jamaica
Posted on: June 22nd, 2007 by Dave BessJamaica is known as the birthplace of reggae music, and has produced most of the important artists of the genre since its conception; growing from the ska music prevalent on the island at the time.
Reggae has always maintained a niche market appeal, save for the one unifying factor, the late Bob Marley; whose ubiquity is so far reaching as to make you nauseous with recognition. Perhaps he was but the icebreaker for this brand of island music to be recognized outside of its geocentric scope.
At any rate, there is no doubt that reggae music is not just a Jamaican sound. Bands around the world have taken up the double-time jives and have evolved the original sound to suit contemporary times.
The 15th Red Stripe Reggae SunFest is set to catch a fire from the 15th to the 21st of July, and some of the biggest names in music have been confirmed to perform. Mainstay reggae artists like Beenie Man and Bounty Killer will be joined by soul and hip-hop legends Mary J. Blige and LL Cool J.
The festival will take place in Montego bay, an area known as ‘Vibes City’ due to its strong music scene.
