Woman inadvertently finds hole in NZ border patrol
Posted on: January 17th, 2008 by Charlotte FellowsLynette Harris is a New Zealander by birth, born in Invercargill on the tip of new Zealand’s south island but has lived the last many years on Australia’s Gold Coast. She returned to her country of birth yesterday with a cruise ship which she boarded on November 23rd in Hawaii.
The mercury cruise ship then continued its route and when it docked in Dunedin on the east coast of the south island, Harris, who had planned to disembark in Sydney, walked off the boat for what she described as ‘family reasons’.
And she did this without any border guards stopping her. The only security questions she was asked was whether or not she was carrying any seeds, fruits or plants. The incident has brought up serious questions about New Zealand’s border control and Harris said, “In this day and age where everyone is made so aware of terrorists … or overstayers or whatever, to me it was just too easy — far, far too easy. There was a big error made, obviously.”
