With airlines nothing is for free
Posted on: June 13th, 2008 by Dave SmithWith the price of fuel skyrocketing with no end in site, airline companies are looking around every corner to make a few extra dollars to avoid going under. Passengers planning trips this summer should be aware of a few changes many major airline companies are making before getting in your seat.
US Airways is now going to add any beverage (alcohol or not) as a fee based item for passengers on their flights. No more water, soda or coffee for free so be sure to bring some dollars with you if you find yourself on a long flight. In addition to charging for drinks, other companies such as United Airlines has said they will shortly begin adding a fee of fifteen dollars to passengers who plan on checking in bags. American airlines announced last week the same plan to access a charge for check luggage for its passengers. While a set fee is accessed for your check in luggage, additional charges can be added on for example if your bag is above their weight requirements or if it requires some form of special handling.
These charges in addition to the fact that most major airlines are cutting routes and overbooking flights to ensure they are full will make flying this summer a hassle. The cost of fuel is having a large impact to the passenger experience however airlines are taking measures required to deal with the almost double expense that fuel is now demanding.
