As global warming becomes more of a reality for us all, a sad but true kind of tourism is developing. An Intragovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a report last year that indicated that Australia’s great barrier reef could all but disappear by 2050, and reports form the Swiss Alps say more snowmaking equipment is needed for ski resorts due to warming temperatures.

American advertising firm JWT director of trendspotting Ann Mack says, “Let’s face it, Al Gore’s ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ and the time- lapse photography were not lost on a number of people. And increasingly, people are wanting to see these sights of the world before they change shape or change form. As global warming is rising up the world’s agenda, ecotourists are flocking to previously ignored places.”

The practice has been dubbed by some as climate sightseeing, and as people scramble to catch a glimpse of or world’s beauty before it’s gone, the situation doesn’t seem to be getting any better. For example, according to scientists, the Glacier National Park in the US won’t exist by 2030.
