Wellington prepares for summer onslaught

It’s no secret that New Zealand is one of the world’s favourite places to spend a holiday. The country enjoys a thriving tourism industry, and it’s quaint capital of Wellington is gearing up to accept the droves of tourists in record numbers as the Southern hemisphere welcomes the first streams from the summer sun.
Countrywide statistics show tourist numbers are rising, and Wellington is profiting form the rising number of cruise ships that are docking in its bay and letting loose the throngs of big spenders into it’s downtown core. Chief of Positively Wellington Tourism Tim Cossar says, “This summer is shaping up to be a busy one for Wellington. Our cruise season is going to be the strongest yet.”
The city is certainly pulling out all the stops when it comes to making Wellington an attractive place to spend some time this summer, with the New Zealand Arts Festival being held in the capital as well as the NZI International Sevens rugby tournament.
Another sports match to watch for will be the clash between local Wellington Phoenix FC and the David Beckham-led Los Angeles Galaxy. Mr. Cossar says, “This is an exciting event for Wellington, and it will generate massive media coverage for the city, both domestically and internationally.”
