Was she too sexy for her flight?
Posted on: September 8th, 2007 by Paul FenrichA 23-year-old woman on a flight with Southwest Airlines last week was asked to change her clothes or catch another flight by flight attendants. She was told that the clothes she was wearing were too revealing to be worn on their flight.
Kyla Ebbert says she’d like an apology from the airline over her treatment.
She told the Today Show that she was asked to come to the front of the plane just before the crew closed the doors. She was taken aside by one of the flight attendants for a private discussion.
“He told me, ‘I’m sorry but you’re going to have to catch a later flight because you are dressed inappropriately, this is a family airline and you are too provocative to fly on this flight’,” Ebbert said. “I said, ‘What part is it? The shirt? The skirt? Which part?’ He said, ‘the whole thing.’”
Ebbert says she couldn’t possibly comply with the flight attendant as she had no luggage. She was only away from home for the day, flying to Tucscon for an appointment with her doctor and returning thereafter.
The woman was allowed to remain on her flight after she agreed to pull down her skirt and pull up her shirt. She wore the same clothes when she made her appearance on the talk show.
Southwest Airline released a statement regarding the incident. It reads: “Southwest Airlines was responding to a concern about Ms. Ebbert’s revealing attire on the flight that day. As a compromise, we asked her to adjust her clothing to be less revealing, she complied, and she traveled as scheduled. When a concern is brought to our employees’ attention, we address that situation directly with the customer(s) involved in a discreet and professional matter. Fortunately, as an airline that carries approximately 96 million customers a year, those situations are extremely rare.”
