Virgin Trains Says Trains are Least Stressful for Parents
Posted on: January 12th, 2010 by Katy DaviesNow that Christmas has come and gone, many are recovering from their hectic holiday travels and inevitable family arguments that take place around the holidays. Virgin Trains, however, a leading rail provider to the west coast, has announced a list revealing the most stressful modes of transportation.
The list, which ranks transport methods from most stressful to least stressful, indicates that train travel may actually be the key to avoiding unnecessary holiday stress. Out of the survey results, only 11 percent of UK parents indicated that travelling with children on trains would cause arguments between them. So, 88 percent were able to relax and enjoy the travel experience.
Planes have become a stressful mode of transport for families due to increasing delays, especially this Christmas with heavy snowfall, and the booking process and security checks making it difficult for parents with children to move quickly through the long holiday lines.
Parents also indicate in overwhelming numbers, that the onboard entertainment for children was better on trains. 49 percent of parents reported playing games that they did when they were young on trains with their children today. However, electronic games have increased for children on trains, with a third of parents reporting their kids using electronic devices to stay entertained while traveling.
Senior Communications Manager for Virgin Trains, Jim Rowe, said that many families like to attempt to avoid extra stressors during holiday times and that train travel was a great way for families to actually enjoy their holiday travel experience arriving refreshed as opposed to exhausted.
