Virgin Blue to benefit from new open skies
Posted on: February 20th, 2008 by Emily WelchThe recent announcement that there is to be an Open Skies agreement between Australia and the United States has made airlines like the national Australian carrier Qantas very happy indeed. Shortly after the open skies deal was made public, Qantas announced it would increase flight frequency and vary its destinations to the US. The pan Pacific agreement follows and earlier open skies agreement between the US and Europe, which has so far proven effective and beneficial from all sides.
Another airline that has publicly supported the agreement is Virgin Blue. The US-based branch of Virgin plans to launch its Australian version, V Australia soon and this will make things all the more easier for them.
Brett Godfrey, V Australia chief executive says,
“The Australia-US Open Skies agreement is a great achievement and a significant change after almost twenty years of restrictive bi-laterals. The agreement and the approvals granted underline the commitment of both Governments to extensively liberalise Australia-US air services, a decision we strongly endorse and one which will bring significant benefits to both countries.
We are also particularly proud of the contributing role we have played as a catalyst for the establishment of this agreement. It will enable us to bring long awaited, genuine competition to the trans-Pacific market.”
