Virgin Atlantic has reduced its fares in Upper Class by as much as 40 per cent in an effort to stimulate premium-class travel demand in small- and medium-sized businesses.

The fare sale runs from 9 through 27 January, with discounts available for selected dates until September.

Deepest discounts are being offered on airfares to New York, which have been reduced by 40 per cent, to £1,099. The business class fare to Sydney has been discounted from 16-24 per cent, down to £2,729-3,029, depending on travel dates.

Discounted fares are being offered on destinations including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Washington DC, the Caribbean, Dubai, Lagos, Nairobi, Delhi, Mumbai, Shanghai and Tokyo.

Fares are inclusive of taxes, fees and surcharges.

Airline chief executive, Steve Ridgway, commented: “As a leading global airline, we have a responsibility to help pump-prime the economy. These lower Upper Class fares will enable small and medium-sized businesses in particular to do deals and meet contacts around the world and help get the global economy moving again.”
