Virgin Atlantic planes will carry new slogan
Posted on: September 14th, 2008 by Dave BessAs the merger between British Airways, American Airlines, and Iberia continues to progress, Richard Branson with Virgin Atlantic continues to vocalize the negative impacts the venture will have. Not only will the competitive nature of the airline industry itself be hurt but customers will ultimately feel the effects with higher flight costs. Branson has spoken repeatedly about the effects to even the two Presidential candidates in the United States.
At Heathrow Airport the other day in Virgin Atlantics hanger Branson announced that all of the aircraft in the Virgin Atlantic fleet would carry a slogan on them. The slogan will read “No Way BA/AA.” Branson plans to compliment the new slogan with a serious marketing campaign designed to make it know the impacts of the merger of American Airlines and British Airways.
Branson noted the unveiling of the new slogan that “What BA and AA want to do is effectively merge and that will reap unbelievable damage. It’s like allowing Coca Cola and Pepsi to merge. It’s unthinkable that a competition authority could allow such a merger to happen.”
In response to Richard Branson’s allegations the chief executive officer of British Airways, Willie Walsh, noted that the introduction of the “open skies” agreement between the European Union and the United States allowed airlines to fly anywhere they choose to in between the regions. Walsh added that “These arguments (made by Branson) are old, they are out of date, it’s time to move on. We have got a new operating regulatory environment, a new competitive environment — move with the times.”
