Virgin Atlantic launches 25th anniversary campaign
Posted on: January 6th, 2009 by Doug SmithVirgin Atlantic announced on Monday the launch of a £6 million campaign aimed at helping travellers “beat the credit crunch blues.”
The airline will be celebrating its 25th anniversary later in the year, and the new campaign features television adverts set in the 1980s.
Virgin is planning to offer a number of special airfares, campaigns and other events in the months preceding the June anniversary date. The carrier’s chief executive, Steve Ridgway, said: “We’re fighting back against the doom and gloom in the airline industry. While our competitors are feeling down in the dumps, our passengers want us to celebrate the transformation we’ve brought in the industry since our launch in 1984.”
He added: “You can count on Virgin Atlantic to raise spirits with some of our lowest fares ever and look into the future with optimism as we did 25 years ago.”
Since its launch, Virgin Atlantic has flown more than 65 million passengers. The airlines currently services 30 destinations world-wide, on a fleet of 38 aircraft.
Flybe, meanwhile, is attempting to lure more passengers by offering free insurance to their customers that provides a full refund to anyone losing their job and unable to travel, the carrier announced on Monday.
