Virgin Atlantic and Taxi2 launch shared taxi scheme
Posted on: November 13th, 2009 by Katy DaviesVirgin Atlantic has launched a unique scheme that will help its guests to find other travellers who want to use shared taxi in going to city centres, resulting to travel cost savings while reducing carbon footprint. With the help of Taxi2’s website, passengers who are either on the same flight or arriving at a similar time, and are heading to the same location are matched so they can share the taxi fare.
Dee Cooper, Director of the Product and Service of Virgin Atlantic, said, “We are always looking at ways to help improve our passengers’ journeys and this is a simple initiative which helps them to connect in a clever way. We expect this scheme to be popular with our passengers.”
Air passengers are simply asked to log their flight and destination details on Taxi2’s website, and the system will automatically match them with a suitable taxi companion. The details of the matched traveller will then be sent to the passenger for the guest to choose whether to agree on the matching result and to arrange their meeting place.
Ed Maklouf, Founder of Taxi2, commented, “We are delighted to be partnering with Virgin Atlantic for this scheme, and our expectation is that this simple, sensible way or saving money and cutting down congestion and carbon footprint will become common activity for air travellers worldwide.”
The new scheme is not only limited to Virgin Atlantic’s customers. The service is also available to passengers of other airlines. Moreover, the system allows matching females who only wants to be partnered with another female companion.
