Virgin Atlantic adds flights to Jamaica
Posted on: July 15th, 2008 by Katy DaviesLater this year, Virgin Atlantic will increase its service from Gatwick Airport to Montego Bay, Jamaica, in time for the Christmas holiday travel period, according to recent report issued by the airline.
The carrier is planning to offer five extra flights during the Christmas period, which are expected to be popular with Britons anxious to escape the cold and damp of the winter – and also with Jamaicans living in the UK, and returning to their homeland to celebrate Christmas with family members on the island.
The dates for the first three additional flights will be 22, 23 and 24 December, and the final two flights are set for 5 and 6 January.
Steve Ridgway, the chief executive of Virgin Atlantic commented: “This route has proved very popular with leisure customers and these additional flights will provide a further boost to the region’s economy, with over 2,000 passengers expected to take advantage of the extra services.”
Although it is not the home base for Virgin Atlantic, Gatwick Airport hosts many of the carrier’s flights with destinations in the Caribbean. Regular services on Virgin Atlantic operate from Gatwick to Antigua, Barbados and St Lucia, among others.
Virgin Atlantic operates service from Heathrow Airport, to long-haul destinations such as Cape Town, Hong Kong, San Francisco and Sydney.
