Venetian Macao opens and sets records

The Venetian Macao has been under construction for quite a long time, but has now officially opened on the Cotai Strip on the island south of Mainland China. The hotel saw 73,800 people come through in only the first five hours of being open, which makes the estimation that the hotel will welcome 26 million visitors this era seem reasonable.

And why are they flocking there? The hotel has some early accolades as the largest single structure hotel in all of Asia and it is actually the second-largest building on the planet.

Chairman and Chief Executive of Las Vegas Sands Corp, Sheldon G Adelson says, “We spend billions of dollars because we know demand will be here. This will be the meeting place of East and West. All business will come here. There had never been an entertainment centre in Asia,” he said. “All entertainment elements are here in a single building. We reproduce a capital of entertainment in Asia for Asia.”

There are a lot of zeroes in the specs for the building. 3,000 suite guest rooms, a 550,000 square foot casino with 3,400 slot machines and 870 game tables.
