US Airways makes wing repairs
Posted on: April 23rd, 2008 by Dave BessAfter a wing-fastener on a US Airways Boeing 757 jet fell off and hit a passenger window last month in the air over Maryland, investigators have been pursuing the issue and have just announced that other faulty fasteners have been found and repaired on additional Boeing 757s.
The national Transportation Safety Board identified three clips that hold the fastener on had failed in the incident of March 22nd, and said that improper installation and lazy inspections led to the failure. US Airways says it has fixed all other fasteners fond to be faulty on its 757 aircraft and the planes have been returned to service.
Investigators said they had still not been able to locate the panel that flew off the wing. No one was injured in the incident, but a passenger windown was damaged as the panel hit it at high speed. US Airways flight 1250 was en route to Philadelphia from Orlando when the mishap occurred.
