United Airlines will be flying dry flights on its routes in to New Mexico, after being denied a renewal on a temporary licence to sell alcohol to its passengers. Why only New Mexico? The decision comes from the state after an incident last year where an intoxicated passenger crashed his car killing himself and a family in the other vehicle. In the infinite wisdom of hand-slapping policy, the airline was forced to keep alcoholic drinks off all its flights into the state.

The 90-day licence expired in June, and their appeals for renewal were denied. There is still pending license for a permanent right to sell booze on planes in New Mexico.

In the statement denying the appeal, it was said that the board “cannot reasonably find that approval of application will protect the public health and safety or that it is in the public interest.”

The Regulation and Licensing Department now demands that no alcohol be served on a United plane wither while on the ground in New Mexico or when in the state’s airspace. One rotten apple spoiling the bunch again.
