United Airlines surely thought they were providing employees with a nice gesture of a Thanksgiving meal when they rolled out the turkey and stuffing for their employees this weekend, but things ended badly when five workers needed medical attention after they developed symptoms of nausea and vomiting.

The dinner was served to 3000 mechanics, baggage handlers and other ground employees at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport principally as a gesture of reconciliation after criticisms of unfair allotment of wages between employees and executives.

To keep the airline out of bankruptcy, employees were forced to take cuts in pay while the brass somehow managed to raise their own salaries. Now the token gesture of a mass dinner has made some employees physically ill. “For years, management worked to distance themselves from employees, but now they’re trying to reach out to us. The idea is that we’re all in this together,” said president of the Aircraft mechanics Fraternal Association Don Wolfel.

“There were questions about whether the turkey smelled quite right. The popular opinion was that it didn’t,” he continued, and the results were vomiting and nauseous people. The caterer was not reachable for comment.
