UK-US flights in the works with Singapore Airlines
Posted on: December 4th, 2007 by Jennifer JonesBritain and Singapore are discussing a new arrangement which could lead to flights between the UK and the US being offered by Singapore Airlines.
The arrangement is similar to the Open Skies agreement which will come into effect between America and Britain next March. Singapore and the UK are discussing the possibility of opening each others aviation markets to each other’s airline.
If the agreement gets signed, it will mean the first time an airline from outside Europe or America has been given access to the markets in London and the US. According to a spokesperson from Singapore Airlines, the deal is a “landmark” for both the customers and the airline.
Large airlines like British Airways, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic currently dominate the air on routes between the UK and the US, but if the deal goes through, Singapore Airlines would gain the right to operate ongoing flights from a London base.
Singapore airlines regularly comes out on top of travel surveys, delivering quality service to their clients. Last year, Singapore Airlines was named the “Best Overall Airline in the World” in the Business Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.
Unfortunately, Singapore Airlines will be increasing its fuel surcharge starting on December 4th. For flights from Britain, the fuel surcharge will be £36 ($75) on a one-way flight.
