Twilight Cast Afraid after Rio de Janeiro Hotel Hostage Incident
Posted on: August 26th, 2010 by Dave BessThe cast and crew of the film franchise Twilight may decide not to film some of the scenes for the final editions to the series, Breaking Dawn: Part I and Breaking Dawn: Part II, in Rio de Janeiro. This comes after the gang of gunmen took hostages at a luxury InterContinental Hotel and participated in a public shoot-out with police over the weekend.
Originally, some of the scenes for Breaking Dawn were going to be filmed in the Brazilian city, because it’s famous for its great beaches and rampant street crime, wanting the concept of the film to be as close to reality as possible. However, the incident over the weekend with gang members taking 35 people hostage at the city’s hotel has spooked the production crew more than the fictional characters in the film. (1 gang member was killed and 6 others were injured during the incident.)
According to Riofilme, the agency in Rio de Janeiro that promotes film production, Summit Entertainment, the company producing the Twilight franchise, is in emergency talked with state officials. The agency is trying to convince the production company to move ahead with their plans.
If Summit Entertainment decides not to go ahead with the filming in Rio de Janeiro, the city’s economy will lose $1 million. However, this isn’t the only thing that the city has to worry about. Rio has been chosen as the host of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics, so authorities have already stepped up in enforcing the law and dispersing crime in the city.
