Trump golf course again delayed

The ₤1 billion golf resort planned in Scotland by Donald Trump has been yet again delayed, but a Scottish tourist official stresses that the announcement was sending out the wrong message as far as investment in Scotland is concerned. The American billionaire businessman has been planning the golf resort for two years now, but a public local enquiry to secure the construction will not happen until June.

VisitScotland’s chief executive Philip Riddle says, “I think Trump would be good for the area because, in terms of an investment for the future, when perhaps we are not doing quite so well on the oil side, we do need to think about tourism infrastructure. I believe we have to be very careful. There is a lot to be said for the sensitivity about any damage to the environment, which is the backbone of the tourism product. That’s what we survive on, so we have to be careful about it and I know it is not an easy decision.

I think the fact we have not been able to make up our minds has probably been the most negative aspect of all this because we do need to attract inward investment to this area and Scotland as a whole.”
