Travelzoo is an internet media company operating on a worldwide scale. Its latest research shows that nine in ten Canadians plan to take a vacation away form home this summer, according to the 60,000 Canadians Travelzoo subscribers surveyed. The stats show that 60 percent of travelling Canadians plan to vacation in an urban setting, especially for the upcoming Victoria Day long weekend. The most popular city getaway locations are Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Vancouver and Montreal.

Travelzoo’s Canadian country manager Mandy Gresh said, “With Victoria Day approaching, the summer vacation season is heating up and Canadians are now in the process of making travel plans. Many travellers are planning to take multiple trips this summer and city getaways are becoming more popular. We’re seeing some great deals from many tourism organizations and city hotels looking to entice travellers.”

Of the roughly 50 percent of Canadians surveyed said that exchange rates would not affect their choice of destination, with the Canadian dollar being at a high level right now, the Canucks hold an advantage they haven’t seen for some time.
