Travel warning for Zimbabwe issued

This has led the government to order businesses freeze the prices of staple foods like bread, milk, and so on. Even these items have seen a sharp price increase recently, and fears of all-out chaos have led the government to take extreme action.
Businesses that have failed to comply have faced harsh reprimands at the hands of the government, and state sponsored goon squads have been given the authority to use violence.
The U.S State Department issued a warning to American citizens that “American citizens in Zimbabwe should minimize travel within the country and to the extent practicable, avoid public places and gatherings.” The statement continued, “In response to growing public protests against deteriorating conditions, the Zimbabwe government continues to authorize its security forces to suppress all dissent by whatever means deemed necessary.”
Food shortages are also predicted as many people began stockpiling supplies preparing for the worst. The statement also accused Robert Mugabe’s government of condoning violence against anyone showing any opposition to his government.
The statement also noted, “While heavily populated urban areas remain the focal point for the government’s crackdown, the U.S. Embassy has received reports of indiscriminate state-sponsored violence in rural areas, including tourist, hunting and safari areas.”
