Travel insurance essential for holidays at all destinations
Posted on: August 28th, 2008 by Doug SmithTravel insurance is too often seen as a last minute option on the holiday agenda, but in fact is an “essential must-have” according to insurance specialist ASDA Financial Services, and Legal and General advises that adequate travel cover is also important for holidays close to home.
On this latest holiday weekend, Brits by the thousands will be flying off to foreign destinations for a few days, and thousands of other will pack up the car for a long weekend break somewhere closer to home in the UK, but the latest statistics show that 25 per cent of those leaving on a trip do so without travel insurance of any kind.
According to ASDA Financial Services, travel cover is essential for any type of holiday, and can be important particularly given the threatened strikes by ground staff at Gatwick, for example, which could mean a cancelled trip.
“Taking out adequate travel insurance shouldn’t be seen as an optional extra….it’s an essential must-have,” a spokesman for the insurer said.
He continued by saying: “Being delayed at the airport is just one of the risks travellers face when they go on holiday and aside from the inconvenience, the last thing we want is for them to be out of pocket too.”
Legal and General also stress the importance of adequate travel cover, and recommend that holidaymakers ensure that their luggage is covered even if they’re going on holiday close to home.
