Tourism spending to increase in Canada

A report presented at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives Canada Education Conference in Calgary, Alberta shows that Canadian companies will be spending 4.2% more on travel.

The ACTE executive director, Susan Gurley says, “The 2008 Business Travel Outlook is a wealth of statistics and a guide to several key trends for the Canadian business travel industry.” The increase is due to companies making more business trips abroad, as well as more domestic trips as well. The survey results stem from statistics from 43 of Canada’s top companies.

With many predictions for greater demand for available services in 2008 means that travel managers will face higher prices and more difficulty booking hotel rooms. An issue not set to be so troublesome yet may still well be an issue is the rental car industry.

Another interesting fact revealed by the survey is the growing concerns over corporate responsibility on environmental issues. Most of the companies surveyed said that they were embracing environmental responsibility and trying to run their businesses in a greener way.
