Tourism gears up for Olympics

The tourism industry is gearing up to prepare for the 2012 Olympics to be held in London. Tourism South East England has said it strongly believes that efforts must be put in starting now in order to gain maximum benefit from the myriad opportunities that will be afforded by the world’s biggest sporting event.

The South East England Development Agency has launched an innovative campaign where it focuses on helping business around the country to boost profits. Businesses are also planning to offer world class welcomes to visitors in order to gain repeat bookings by them.

The campaign launched is titled ‘Hosting the World’ and is offering businesses to sign up. Offered are packages that include business support and training and revolve around the major events and conferences.

The first to benefit from the funding is of course, the accommodation to be provided at and around London’s Heathrow airport. The General Manager of the Sheraton Hotel believes that support for businesses to realise the need of the hour is essential and that the standard of services and mindset needed to change in time for the Olympics.

Also noted was that the Sheraton would be a gateway to the event, bringing 203 nations, 10,000 athletes, 7 million fans and 20,000 press and media. The hotel is gearing up to give all the guests that would be visiting during the Olympics, an enhanced arrival and departure experience.

The Sheraton will be host to various programmes scheduled. Welcoming the World and Meeting the Media will be held at Sheraton London and Training the team will be held at Ascot Race Course.
