Next time you want to stay somewhere in the United Kingdom that you can be sure is doing everything it can to lessen its impact on the environment and remain self-sustainable, now there is simply a list that will tell you.

The fifty most environmentally friendly places of lodging have been identified and collected for the first time ever in the UK, and the so-called ‘Gold List’ has been put together by independent assessors who set out with the same rigid criteria to scour the nation for the highest quality standards in everything from buying local, energy conservation and sustainable management.

Andrea Nichols is the director of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and had this to say, “This is more than just a list it is a sign of the future as more people are demanding that hotels have to be environmentally aware. Our assessors visited every hotel on the list and verified their claims to be green. We are delighted that so many places want to win the highest accolade - a Gold Award; many others have achieved Bronze or Silver. These hotels are pioneering the way.”
