Top Canadian travel site from a Brit
Posted on: April 17th, 2008 by Jamie BarnettThe Trail Canada travel website had 2.1 million visitors last year, and its sister sites Canada Events and Canada Travel Guide aren’t far behind. All three sites were started by England’s James Shearer, after a five month trip across the great white north had him smitten with the country. Shearer met his Canadian wife and emigrated to British Columbia, where he has since received the Small Business BC Start-up award for his travel sites, which he says were inspired by his travel blog he kept up on his initial journey six years ago.
“The [Trail Canada] site has over 8,000 pages of content. We’re supported by the Canadian Tourism Commission, every province and territory, and 30 to 40 municipalities,” he said in a recent interview. I travelled across the country and wrote about my travels. One thing led to another and now [trailcanada.com] has over 400 destinations and you can book hotels, flights, cars. It’s similar to a travel guide, but it’s a lot more.”
