Toddler dies after international flight
Posted on: December 12th, 2007 by Jennifer JonesFollowing an international flight from Bangkok to Sydney, a two-year-old boy went into cardiac arrest and died.
As the Thai Airways flight arrived, it was met by emergency crews. The flight landed at 21:30 (AEDT) at the Sydney Airport.
According to a spokesperson from the ambulance, the toddler was afflicted by croup, a disease which affects the respiratory system of young children.
The ambulance took the young boy to Randwick where there is a Children’s Hospital. He was admitted in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later, according to an announcement made by a hospital spokesperson.
Police are working on a report for the Coroner of New South Wales.
A spokesperson from NSW Heath said that the department was aware of the death and was reserving judgment on the event until they had ascertained from the hospital’s test results that the cause of death was, in fact, croup.
The NSW Health department said that it will not take any action or implement any community treatment plan until those results have come in.
