Loading ...The summer travel season in America begins on the Memorial Day long weeked and lasts through until the Labor Day long weekend in September. This year, Los Angeles International Airport and LA/Ontario Ontario International Airport are expecting it to be a busy season.
For the coming weekend, the busiest days to be at the airport will be May 25 and May 28. Over the entire Memorial Day weekend, LAX expects to handle around 820,000 travelers and LA/Ontario is preparing for 92,000. If you plan to travel through these hubs anytime this weekend, or over the summer, bring a book and expect some delays getting through security and waiting in line.
Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio R. Villaraigosa, said, “With the Memorial Day holiday weekend and the summer travel season upon us, Los Angeles World Airports, the airlines and federal agencies are continuing to work together to ensure a balance between the high level of security required for travelers’ safety and the convenience that they desire.”
Over the entire summer period, LAX is expecting a total of 19.6 million passengers. Although this is an increase of 2.8 per cent over last summer’s passengers most airlines are offering the same number of seats they did last season. Booking flights through these airports during the summer months may be more difficult this year.
Samson Mengistu, acting executive director of Los Angeles World Airports, the city department that owns and operates LAX, ONT and two other airports in Southern California said, “Travelers will find LAX passenger terminals busy and flights heavily booked as they make their way to a multitude of destinations.”
Airport officials reiterate that passengers should allow themselves a safe margin of time to get through security and check in lines. At LAX, they recommend arriving 3 hours ahead of time for international flights and two hours early for domestic flights. For the LA/Ontario Airport, they recommend arriving 90 minutes early for all flights.
