Tickets for Singapore Airlines’ inaugural flight of the giant Airbus A380 aircraft later this year will go on sale on eBay. Interested passengers can bid for a ticket online and fly happily knowing that all profits will be donated to charity.

The CEO of Singapore Airlines, Chew Choon Seng, said: “The first commercial A380 flight will be a moment in aviation history. It will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, on an aircraft that will mark a new chapter in air travel.

“And while we will celebrate the event, we also wish to remember the people who are less fortunate and can be assisted by the charities to which all the proceeds will go.”

The first commercial A380 flight will be between Singapore and Sydney and is scheduled to take place in October.  The mega jet can accommodate 525 passengers on two stories and offers a choice between three classes of seating. In addition, the jet houses a casino, a lounge and several showers.

The eBay auction will open several weeks before the flight, however interested passengers can register in advance in order to receive updates and further information on the auction.

That sounds like a cool way to both generate interest and publicity in the flights and raise money for a good cause. I wonder what the charities are?

I checked out the website and they haven’t announced them yet. That bugs me. How can you do publicity for something and not have picked charities. It’s like saying, “give us money, we’ll give it to *someone* who needs it, really!”
