Thomsonfly ceases Coventry Airport flights
Posted on: October 16th, 2008 by Katy DaviesThe single airline operating passenger service from Coventry Airport has announced that it will stop flying from the Baginton facility on 2 November.
The carrier’s announcement has come after the construction of a new terminal was blocked by High Court judges. A new terminal had been proposed so that the airport could handle two million passengers annually, but campaigners who fought the construction over the last four years were delighted by the Court’s decision.
Several months of declining passenger numbers were also revealed recently, with a drop of 38 per cent for July, as compared with the same month last year. July is the most recent month for which passenger numbers are available.
Thomsonfly had been in the process of considering the future of its operations at the airport.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Thomsonfly commented: “The last outbound flights operated by Thomsonfly from Coventry Airport will be on the 2nd November 2008 and the last inbound flights on the 9thr, except for inbound flights from Jersey, which will operate up to and including the 3rd November. Any customers with bookings for travel after these dates will be contacted over the next few days to arrange alternative travel plans or a refund.”
The statement went on to say: “Thomsonfly is currently working with staff to discuss next steps and will endeavour to find replacement roles within the company where possible.”
