Thomas Cook team meets minister on new bank holiday
Posted on: July 10th, 2008 by Katy DaviesA Thomas Cook team met recently with Lord Digby Jones, the Minister of State for UK Trade and Investment regarding its campaign in support of a proposed new bank holiday.
The delegation meeting with Lord Jones also included Mike Locke, from Volunteering England’s Community Day campaign and Shona McIsaac, MP. The purpose of the meeting was to present an argument in favour of the new bank holiday.
Simon Carter, the executive marketing director for Thomas Cook, and a member of the team presenting the argument, said: “The meeting was extremely positive and we are grateful to the minister for seeing the delegation – particularly for his offer to convey our views to his ministerial colleagues.
“The best way to move this campaign forward is to ask the public to put pen to paper and ask their local MPs for support.”
A parliamentary question had been raised by Lord Foulkes of Cumnock, in the House of Lords, and the meeting was held in response to the question.
At the end of March, Thomas Cook had presented a petition of 522,000 signatures, to which people continue to add their names.
