Thomas Cook launches web portal in India
Posted on: May 22nd, 2008 by Andrew MayerOn Tuesday, Thomas Cook launched a new travel portal for its customers in India. The website is designed to provide end-to-end travel solutions to its Southeast Asian customers.
The UK-based Thomas Cook Groups only acquired a majority stake in Thomas Cook India in March, after successfully negotiating a deal with Dubai Financial Group. The company has 40 franchises in India and is hoping the new website will help increase their presence on the internet.
“We are hoping to leverage the goodwill that the brand name Thomas Cook has established in India, capitalise on the experience that the organisation has accumulated over so many years and use our relationship with Thomas Cook Group,” Thomas Cook India Chairman Udayan Bose said.
The new website will offer financial services, travel products, domestic and international flights, hotels, cruises, travel insurance and Rail Europe passes.
The website is expected to appeal to internet savvy leisure travelers as well as business travelers and travel agents. “Today, 75 per cent of e-commerce spend is attributed to online travel booking. An average young entrepreneur, travelling for work or holiday uses the Internet for addressing most of his travel needs and we want to tap into this large market and cater to their needs effectively,” said Mr. Bose.
