Yesterday was the first day London Heathrow International Airport’s flash new Terminal 5 was open for flyers. The terminal has been touted as being nothing short of state of the art, and like any great technology, it is subject to some glitches, as a multitude of unlucky passengers found out yesterday as the super duper high tech baggage system broke down.

A number of flights were cancelled, all under the watchful eyes of the world’s media that were in the terminal reporting on the grand opening. Passengers were understandably irate. Traveller Sarah Lowdon says, “I’m not a happy bunny. They said they’d refund my money but the time I’ve lost is mine. They said it was because of baggage problems, but all I have is a carry-on. I’m being penalized for their mistakes.”

While Vincent Groccia waited for his flight to Paris, he said, “The terminal looks nice but it would be better if it worked. I tried to check my bags but they told me the conveyor system is not working. I’m hoping to get out of here tonight.”

At the moment it’s closed isn’t it? That’s what I read on the news and saw on the Euro News, with lots of passengers complaining and having to sleep at the terminal.
