Members of the hotel industry across Europe were recently surveyed on their views of who makes the best tourists. A total of 15,000 industry professionals were surveyed on behalf of the travel website Expedia and the nation that came out on top for producing the world’s best tourists was… Japan.

Japanese tourists won first position by a landslide, with 35 per cent more votes than the second place contender. Hoteliers found Japanese tourists to be polite and tidy.

The Americans came in second place, followed by the Swiss. The survey noted that Swiss tourists tended to be quiet and considerate. Incidentally, the British, who came in fifth, were noted as being rude, noisy and miserly with tips.

When it came to spending money, however, the British were able to move up to third place, behind the Americans and the Russians. When hoteliers were asked about the fashion sense of international tourists, the British again fared badly. It seems like the Americans travel in the worst clothes, followed closely by the British.

On the absolute bottom of the overall rankings was France. Hoteliers across Europe deemed the French nation to release the absolute worst tourists into Europe. India, China and Russia placed second, third, and fourth in this category respectively.
