Travelzoo is estimating that 44 million people are likely to travel on the Fourth of July holiday weekend this year. Despite the rise in fuel costs effecting not just road travel but airline travel as well, the majority of people are continuing to plan their vacations with only a 1.3% decreases in travel according to AAA.

One way to save money on road travel this summer is to rent a hybrid vehicle to take on vacation with you. Save some money on gas by utilizing a fuel efficient automobile. Hybrid vehicle’s come in a variety of shapes and sizes which can accommodate extra passengers or luggage.

Expect busy airports and road congestion this Fourth of July Holiday weekend. More people are likely to travel this Independence Day weekend because the Fourth falls on a Friday creating a long weekend that makes a great vacation opportunity. Expect airports and roads to stay busy a few days before the Fourth of July and then continue until a couple of days after the weekend.

Allow yourself more time to check in at the airport before boarding your flight. Families with children are more likely to fly on a holiday weekend which can equate to longer lines at security check points as families make their way through the lines.

MSNBC is also reporting that The Transportation Safety Administration has announced that it will increase its random screening procedure among passengers. This will cause additional delays while you checking in for your flight. Screening can include anything from a search of your suitcase to a simple check of your identification.
