Spring breakers clog airport parking lots
Posted on: March 13th, 2008 by Dave BessWith the Spring Break holiday coming up in the United States, travellers face crowded conditions at the nation’s airports like Buffalo Niagara International Airport this weekend, and the mayhem, according to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, is gong to begin even before passengers get inside the terminal, with parking lots filling to capacity.
Both public and private airport parking facilities are jammed, says Lawrence M. Meckler, executive director of NFTA, as he urges alternative travel:
“We are advising people who plan to fly over the next few days to please consider an alternative method of traveling to the airport. Rather than run the risk of not finding a place to park, we are suggesting people be driven to the airport,” he said.
Travellers arriving at the airport yesterday were faced with 8,000 full spaces, with many license plates being from Ontario, Canada. NFTA spokesman C. Douglas Hartmayer says, “This is prime travel week for Canadians, and Canadian travelers comprise an increasing percentage of our passengers. We’re happy to host them and are pleased they’ve driven across the border to fly out of Buffalo, but it puts a strain on our parking.”
