South Africa use WTA platform to promote World Cup

South African tourism took full advantage of the excellent and timely platform at the recently held World Travel Mart in London, to promote the 2010 FIFA world cup to be held in South Africa.

The World Travel Mart was kicked off on the 9th of November, showcasing many different tourist destinations and a wide variety of tourist services from every corner of the globe. South Africa, however, stole the show by promoting the most looked forward-to event coming up in the next few years.

Attendees were treated to ethnic Diski dance and music performances As part of South Africa’s unveiling of its World Cup promotions.

South Africa is said to be working around the clock in order to welcome football fans to their country, with the world cup now only seven months away. England supporters are expected to flock to the southern hemisphere in a big way, with online bookings for flights to South Africa soaring after England secured its qualification.

South Africa’s brand ambassador for the 2010 world cup, Mr. Lucas Radebe. The legendary football player, along with Dr. Danny Jordan-Chief Executive Officer of South Africa’s World cup committee and Susan van der Merwe, Deputy Minister of International Relations & Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa were present for a press conference promoting the event.

Also during the press conference, a discussion was put forth as to how South Africa planned to significantly enhance its infrastructure.

This included plans to improve the infrastructure at the country’s two major airports OR Tambo and Cape Town International Airport. Also announced was the building of a new international airport in La Mercy North of Durban. Another major development is the Bus Rapid Transit system which will improve transportation to Nasrec and Ellis Park where the World Cup is scheduled.
