South Africa joins the Mega-project game
Posted on: June 25th, 2007 by Emily WelchThe Middle East has seen staggering development over the last few years. Aside from such huge projects as Bawadi and Dubailand, Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat island, even the famous ocean liner the Queen Elizabeth 2 will have a new home in the Gulf as a luxury tourist destination.
The Emirates aren’t the only place with such huge ambitions. Now South Africa has plans for a project to match the scale of nay project in the Middle East.
The Legend Lodges site takes its design inspiration from early Arabic styles and African motifs from what was being built in Zimbabwe in 1500 AD.
The project will see private bush lodges for its lucky guests and it will be a golfer’s paradise with an 18-hole PGA Championship golf course. It will also include a 19th hole, where the tee box, due to its location on a 1,350 metre-high mountain will only be accessible by helicopter.
“We are recreating an exact replica of one of the four monumental architectural structures in Africa. This unique, Big Five Resort will be the first of its kind in the world, where Africa’s game roam free within the resort, epitomising the unique lifestyle of the bushveld.” says Peet Cilliers, CEO of Legend Lodges.
The multi-million dollar site will be located on 23,000 hectares of land in the most northerly province of South Africa. The complex will feature shopping and sporting venues, and will be serviced by its own private airstrip.
