Russia may not be the tourist draw of its European neighbours to the South, but it certainly sees its share of visitors. One of the things many of these visitors say is that there is a lack of budget or mid-range accommodation.
While there are definitely hotels that will have your jaw open at the room rates, there is an emerging middle ground of hotels proving to offer quality and service that are relatively affordable. Relative if you’re wanting to stay in the centre, close to the attractions, that is.

Near Red Square you’ll find Godzillas hostel, where a private room wil run about $65. Not exactly cheap, but this is Moscow… see www.godzillashostel.com for details

A step up is the newly built Prospekt Mira Hotel, www.s-kontur.com, where $150 will have you cozy and warm within easy reach of all central Moscow has to offer.

In Russia’s second city, St. Petersburg there are a couple of good options also in the $150 range. The Petro Palace Hotel, www.petropalacehotel.com, and the Pushka Inn, www.pushkainn.ru
