In the low-cost carrier category, Skytrax named the top three global airlines to fly on a low budget. The group looked at website quality and accessibility and the clarity of prices and fares as well as the quality of flights and services.

Standards for aviation are different across the world, so only three global winners were chosen. The top three low-cost airlines named were: Jetstar Airways, Air Berlin and easyJet.

In the North American category JetBlue took away the first prize, followed by Southwest Airlines, the airline that started low cost travel. Frontier Airlines came third.

JetBlue provides both low prices and 24 channels of satellite television in every seat back, offering a lot of value for the money.

In Australia and the South Pacific, Jetstar Airways came first followed by Virgin Blue and Freedom Air. In Europe the top three budget airlines were: Air Berlin, easyJet and NIKI. In Asia Air Asia took first, Tiger Airways took second and Oasis Hong Kong Airlines came in third.

The Worlds Best Low-Cost Airline Survey collected information from online customer surveys, business research interviews, customer telephone interviews and interviews with selected passengers. Over five million interviews were undertaken worldwide over the year to compile the final results.
