Singapore Airlines has been in the news a lot recently, and for many good reasons. The airline, considered by most experts to be one of the best airlines in the world, has made headlines as the first commercial airline to put into play the state of the art superjumbo Airbus A380. First the airline took the double-decker jet to Australia, then to Europe, with much acclaim. This week’s news from the airline is far less romantic and even a bit of a downer.

SIA announced just before the start of this weekend that it would be raising fuel surcharges on all of its flights. The new surcharge will be added to tickets starting from next week. The airline’s subsidiary, SilkAir will also see a higher fuel surcharge on all its routes.

In a statement from the company, fuel charges for flights from Singapore to Southeast Asian countries has gone from $26 to $30 per flight, and on flights to North American countries Canada and the USA, the former charge of $123 will rise to $130.
