Singapore Airlines increasing flights to India

While some of the leading global airlines are cutting down operations due to soaring fuel prices, Singapore Airlines is daring to swim against the current. The Airline has announced its plans to double its flights to Bangalore and New Delhi.

The airline is not only increasing the number of flights to India, it is also going to offer the best in in-flight luxuries to travellers on its Indian flight routes. Customers will be offered latest products in cabin amenities on Singapore-Mumbai and Singapore-New Delhi routes.

Lee Lik Hsin, Regional VP (West Asia and Africa) of Singapore Airlines confirmed the doubling of flights to Bangalore and New Delhi in the current year. Five additional weekly flights to Delhi and will take the total number of flights to Delhi to 14. Meanwhile, two more flights to Bangalore will take the total number to 12 weekly flights. The proposals are currently awaiting approval of regulatory authorities of both countries.

Lee was queried about how Singapore Airlines is going to manage its expansion with fuel costs nearly ruining the aviation industry. His response was that the airline does not want short term incidents to have an affect on its long term plans.

Mr Lee further added that fluctuations are part of every industry. The airline is confident of its long term strategy and considers India to be an important market for them. He acknowledged that fuel costs are a concern in the short term, but growth in Indian market cannot be ignored.
