When Singapore Airlines launched the world’s first commercial services on board the Airbus A380 superjumbo with private cabins including double beds and removable walls for couples to cuddle, many people’s first thought was of joining the infamous ‘mile high club’ in style. However, Singapore Airlines recently dashed those hopes, asking passengers to refrain from amorous activities on board.

The 12 first-class cabins on the Airbus A380 have a lie-down double bed which can be joined to the double bed in the next cabin for couples traveling together. The cabins are not soundproofed or even completely sealed.

“All we ask of customers, wherever they are on our aircraft, is to observe standards that don’t cause offence to other customers and crew,” the company said in a statement to Reuters. “Nothing different applies for our Singapore Airlines Suites customers.”

Singapore Airlines uses the superjumbo for its flights between Singapore and Syndey.

Tony Elwood traveled with his wife Julie on the inaugural flight. “So they’ll sell you a double bed, and give you privacy and endless champagne and then say you can’t do what comes naturally?” he said.

“They seem to have done everything they can to make it romantic, short of bringing round oysters,” Julie said. “I’d say they shouldn’t really complain, should they?”
