Singapore Airlines was selected as the Best Business Airline and the Best Long-Haul Airline at the 23rd Guardian and Observer Travel Awards ceremony held on 16 October in Bangkok, Thailand. This year’s event results are based from the evaluated questionnaires published online and in the Guardian and Observer newspapers. Since March 2009, over 19,000 readers had participated in the annual travel survey.

For six consecutive years, Singapore Airlines has won the Best Long-Haul Airline award and has claimed the top position since the most coveted award was introduced in 2004. Singapore’s flag carrier airline was also chosen as this year’s Best Business Airline, plus a special recognition award was given to the airline for its excellent cabin crew and service.

Receiving the two travel awards on behalf of the company, John Cotton, Public Relations Manager for the UK and Ireland, commented that Singapore Airlines is proud to receive the awards and is thankful for the votes of the Guardian and Observer readers. The prestigious awards demonstrate the combined efforts of all airline staff to work hard and to exceed the expectations of its passengers, he said.

At the same event, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) was chosen as the winner for the Best Short-Haul Airline award. Gregor Koncilja, Country Manager for the UK and Ireland of SWISS, said that the airline is pleased to receive the high-profile travel award and will strive more to provide the best quality service for travellers.

Aside from the esteemed Guardian and Observer award, SWISS was a runner-up in Conde Nast’s annual Readers’ Travel Awards.
