Singapore Airlines became the first commercial airline to utilise the largest passenger plane in the world, the double-decker Airbus A380. The first Route from Singapore to Sydney, Australia was followed by the Singapore-London route and now the third aircraft will be put to use plying the skies between Singapore and Tokyo, Japan. The third destination for the SIA A380 is the first in Asia, and service to Tokyo Narita International Airport will commence on Tuesday, May 20th.  Flight SQ636 will leave Singapore in the early morning and return later the same day, maintaining that schedule on a daily basis thereafter.

Aside form being the largest passenger plane ever built, the Airbus A380 is also one of the quietest, with revolutionary technology also accounting for significant fuel savings on its routes. The plane’s four engines are built by Rolls Royce. Singapore Airlines is currently the only airline in the world with A380s on their regular schedules, but the coming years will change that, with many other airlines awaiting delivery of their A380s from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France.
